We promote the effective treatment of adults and young people who have long histories of trauma and neglect and therefore struggle to establish and maintain relationships, to manage their emotions and to lead fulfilling lives. This group of people often attract the diagnosis of personality disorder. We fund research, training & education and buildings and facilities at the Cassel and elsewhere.

THE OBJECTS OF THE TRUST ARE TO RELIEVE PERSONS SUFFERING FROM MENTAL ILLNESS OR HANDICAP IN PARTICULAR BY: (A) THE PROVISION OR THE ASSISTANCE IN THE PROVISION OF HOSPITAL BUILDINGS, EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES AT THE CASSEL HOSPITAL OR ELSEWHERE: (B) THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF DOCTORS, NURSES AND SIMILARLY QUALIFIED PERSONS AT THE CASSEL HOSPITAL OR ELSEWHERE IN PSYCHO-ANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY, PSYCHO-SOCIAL NURSING, AND ALL RELATED SUBJECTS: (C) THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE STUDY OF THE PSYCHOLOGY OF RELATIONS (IN THE WIDEST POSSIBLE SENSE OF THE WORLD) BETWEEN HUMAN BEINGS AND GROUPS AND CATEGORIES OF HUMAN BEINGS AND OF THE INFLUENCE OF ENVIRONMENT IN ALL ITS ASPECTS ON THE FORMATION OR DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN CHARACTER OR CAPACITY, TO CONDUCT RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENT FOR THIS PURPOSE; TO PUBLISH THE RESULTS OF SUCH STUDY RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTS; TO TRAIN STUDENTS IN OR FOR ANY BRANCH OF THE SAID STUDY; TO PROVIDE BUILDINGS, PREMISES, ACCOMMODATION AND OTHER FACILITIES FOR THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS FOR THIS PURPOSE: (D) THE CARRYING OUT AND ASSISTANCE IN THE CARRYING OUT OF RESEARCH INTO THE CAUSES AND TREATMENTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND TO DISSEMINATE THE USEFUL RESULTS OF SUCH RESEARCH.
